Levonelle, is the brand of Levonorgestrel, an emergency contraceptive prescribed to women if they have had unprotected sex but wish to avoid pregnancy. It consists of a synthetic of the natural progesterone hormone which prevents the release of an egg during menstruation. It must be taken within 72 hours in order to be effective.
