Trimbow is a medicine recommended to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Trimbow is a preventive medication that helps maintainasthma and COPD for adults who have not found adequate relief through other treatments.

Numerous patients may have been prescribed a long-acting beta-2 agonist with corticosteroids to treat asthma or COPD. Others may have been recommended a long-acting muscarinic receptor agonist medication. And yet, such patients continue to experience flare-ups at least once a year;in such cases, doctors recommendTrimbowto better maintainasthma and COPD symptoms.

Trimbow is a highly effective medicine to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. Treatments such as long-acting beta-2 agonists with corticosteroids (inhaled or otherwise) or long-acting muscarinic receptor agonists may not offer adequate relief in some cases.

Patients with asthma or COPD who have received such treatment but still experience flare-ups once a year are recommended Trimbow for adequate relief. It helps maintain the symptoms and prevent flare-ups in moderate to severe COPD or asthma.

Research has shown that regular use of Trimbow helps COPD patients reduce their exacerbations (flare-ups) by 15%. In moderate to severe asthma cases, the exacerbations were reduced by 12 to 15% through regular use of Trimbow.

Trimbow contains three active ingredients, namely beclomethasone, formoterol, and glycopyrronium bromide. Together they work to keep the lungs’ airways open and allow you to breathe comfortably.

  • Beclomethasone: Beclomethasone belongs to a group of anti-inflammatory medicines known as corticosteroids. Corticosteroids are naturally occurring chemicals that help prevent allergic reactions such as inflammation and excessive production of mucus.

Beclomethasone works similarly to corticosteroids to prevent the immune system from causing inflammation in the airways. Thereby, it keeps the airways open to help you breathe easier.
  • Formoterol: Formoterol is a long-acting beta-2 agonist. Formoterol acts on the beta-2 receptors present in the cells of the lungs’ muscles. Muscles of lungs and airways tend to contract and become tense in case of flare-ups. Formoterol helps these muscles stay relaxed and allows the airways to open and help you breathe.

  • Glycopyrronium Bromide: Glycopyrronium bromide is a muscarinic receptor antagonist. It blocks the muscarinic receptors in muscle cells in the lungs. This action of glycopyrronium helps control the contraction of lung muscles and allows the airways to remain open.

Trimbow Inhaler is a long-term treatment. Even though you will experience an improvement in your symptoms in the first few weeks, it is imperative to continue the medication for a long time. Over time, it will ease your symptoms to offer permanent relief.

Trimbow is a prescription medication for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), and it should be taken as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. Your doctor will assess your asthma symptoms and prescribe the required dosage. Do not take a different dosage without consulting your doctor first.

Trimbow is available in two strengths – 87/5/9 micrograms or 172/5/9 micrograms. Your doctor will help you decide which strength of medication is best suited to your requirements.

Usually, the recommended dose to treat asthma or COPD is two inhalations twice a day. Do not take more than two inhalations two times a day. As Trimbow Inhaler is a long-term medication, you are required to continue taking the prescribed doses regularly until your doctor advises you otherwise.

Trimbow is not suitable for paediatric use. It is not to be prescribed to anyone below 18 years of age.

The Trimbow Inhaler should be appropriately used as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any doubts or questions about using your medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist for help. It is also a good idea to read the patient information leaflet given in the pack. Here are the step-by-step instructions for using Trimbow, recommended for asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) –

Priming –

When using a new pack of Trimbow Inhaler for the first time, release one actuation in the air to ensure that your Inhaler is working well. This process is also known as priming. Check the dosage counter on your Inhaler before priming your Trimbow Inhaler; it should read 61, 121, or 180 doses, depending on the kind of Inhaler you have purchased. After priming, the indicator should read 60, 120, or 180 doses.

Using the Inhaler

  • Step 1 - Stand or sit upright when using the Trimbow Inhaler.
  • Step 2 - Remove the protective cap from the mouthpiece and ensure that the mouthpiece is clean.
  • Step 3 - Facing away from the mouthpiece, breathe out as far as you can to empty your lungs.
  • Step 4 - Hold the Inhaler vertically with the body upwards and place the mouthpiece between your teeth, but do not bite. Place your lips around the inhaler mouthpiece to form a seal. Keep your tongue under the mouthpiece.
  • Step 5 - Press down on the top of the pressurized container of the Inhaler to release one dose. At the same time, breathe in slowly to inhale the medication.
  • Step 6 - Release the mouthpiece from your lips.
  • Step 7 - Hold your breath as long as you comfortably can. Then facing away from the Inhaler, breathe out and continue to breathe normally.
  • Step 8 - Check the dose indicator to ensure that it has moved correctly.
  • Step 9 - Wait at least thirty seconds before the second inhalation, hold the Inhaler in a vertical position during this time.
  • Step 10 - Repeat steps 3 to 8 for a second puff.

Keep the following points in mind -

  • If you see a mist escaping from your mouth or the inhaler mouthpiece when you take your medication – it means that your dose has not been administered correctly. Follow the process once again in this case to ensure proper dosage.
  • Replace the protective cover over the mouthpiece after every use. Also, remember to rinse your mouth or gargle with water (without swallowing it) after every dose.
  • When the dose indicator shows 20 or fewer doses remaining, it is time to revisit your doctor to get a new prescription.

Clean your inhaler mouthpiece with a clean, dry cloth every once a week. Do not use water to clean your Inhaler.
