Zoely tablets are hormonal contraceptive pills formulated with a combination of two active ingredients. The first is estradiol, a form of estrogen found in the body, while the second is nomegestrol, a synthetic form of progesterone. Both are synthetic versions of the naturally occurring female sex hormones, estrogen, and progesterone. Zoely is usually recommended to prevent pregnancy, along with overcoming problems of heavy, painful, or irregular periods. It is popularly known as 'the pill' or combined oral contraceptive.

Zoely tablets are highly beneficial in effectively preventing pregnancy by:

  • tricking your ovaries into believing that ovulation has occurred, preventing the release of an egg for fertilization by the sperm.
  • making it difficult for the sperm to enter the uterus by thickening the mucus at the neck of the uterus.
  • preparing the lining of the womb to not be conducive for the attachment of a fertilized egg.

When taken every day as per the prescribed dosage, Zoley has proven to effectively help people avoid unwanted pregnancy by synthetically mimicking the effects of the naturally present female sex hormones.

Combined oral contraceptive pills like Zoely usually function by overriding the natural menstrual cycle in people with vaginas. A menstrual cycle induces changes in the levels of the sex hormones throughout each month. These hormones lead to the release of an egg from the ovaries, during a phase called ovulation, to prepare the womb lining for a possible pregnancy. If the egg does not get fertilized at the end of the cycle, the hormonal levels fall, leading to monthly menstruation when the womb lining sheds.

Now, Zoley provides a daily dose of hormones that trick your body that ovulation has already happened. It thus prevents an egg from ripening and releasing from the ovaries monthly in the first place. Both estradiol and nomegestrol work together to increase the thickness of the natural mucus present at the neck of your womb, making it difficult for the sperm to enter the womb or fertilize an egg. The hormones also function to alter the quality of the womb lining making it less likely for a fertilized egg to get implanted.

Follow the instructions below to take Zoley:

  • Zoely is an everyday pill to be taken once daily. You can buy the tablets in a 28 tablets strip.
  • Each of these strips will have 24 small white active tablets and 4 small yellow inactive tablets.
  • You must follow the order of taking the tablets as specified on the pack.
  • Begin with the tablet marked one and continue accordingly. The package comes with self-adhesive strips, each mentioning a different day of the week.
  • You will be able to understand on which day to take each tablet.
  • To begin using the tablet, pull out a pill that is marked with the day you start, for instance, “Fri" for Friday. Make sure you stick that pill to the top of the strip so that the first day is mentioned with the pill marked ‘start.

  • You can take Zoely tablets with or without food.
  • Try taking your pill at the same time daily to remember.

You will begin the 28 days strip with 24 active tablets taken once daily for 24 days followed by 4 inactive tablets for the last 4 days.
