Dermovatecream is a topical corticosteroid medicine which is used for the reduction of itching, inflammation and redness. It contains the active ingredient clobetasol propionate.

Dermovate cream used as a short treatment for severe skin conditions such as lichen planus, eczema & psoriasis, recalcitrant dermatoses, discoid lupus erythematosus, etc. It is used when a patient does not respond to other less powerful steroid medications.

Skin inflammation tends to take place when the skin gets an allergic reaction and releases various substances which inflame the blood vessels and cause the affected area to become itchy, painful, red and swollen.

Dermovate Cream contains the active ingredient clobetasol propionate which prevents the skin from releasing inflammatory substances. As a result, it helps reduce the inflammation, redness and swelling.

The main benefit of Dermovate Cream is to prevent the release of inflammatory substances from the blood vessels. It thereby reduces various symptoms of inflammation such as itching, redness, swelling and irritation.

Dermovate cream is not meant to be used in the following conditions:

  • Bacterial skin infections such as cellulitis
  • Viral skin infection such as chickenpox or cold sores
  • Fungal skin infections such as ringworm
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Rash around the mouth area
  • Rash around the genitals or anus
  • Nappy rash
  • Itching in the absence of any inflammation

The usual recommended dosage of Dermovate cream is once or twice a day to the affected areas, for as long as you are advised to do so. Do not exceed more than 50gms / week.

Follow these steps for using Dermovate cream:

  • Clean the affected area thoroughly.
  • Take the required amount of the cream and apply a thin layer to the entire affected area. Gently rub it in.
  • Allow the skin a sufficient amount of time to absorb the cream.
  • Do not apply this cream to areas where the skin is broken, has cuts or wounds, or is infected unless that particular infection is being treated.
  • Do not apply this cream onto your face, unless your medical team advises you to do so.
  • If you are required to apply this cream to your face, be careful that it does not enter your eyes, mouth or nose. Rinse thoroughly with cold water in case of an accidental application.
  • Do not tie any bandage or dressing, unless you are advised to do so. An airtight dressing will increase the amount of absorption of the medicine, which may be harmful and increase the chances of side effects.
  • Wash your hands well after you finish using the cream.

A few common side effects of Dermovate cream include:

  • Irritation, burning, swelling, or dryness of the skin
  • Changes to the skin colour
  • Thinning or softening of the skin, and increased chances of bruising
  • Skin infection or rash
  • Eye pain when the cream is used near the eye
  • Headache

If you are using any other corticosteroid medications, topical creams or moisturizers, please inform your medical team before you start taking Dermovate cream.

Store the cream in a clean and dry place. Keep it out of reach of children.
