Women who are suffering from the symptoms of menopause often have to endure distress for over 4 years. To overcome conditions like irregular periods, night sweats, mood swings, hot flashes, and vaginal itching or dryness, women can take short-term HRT treatments. Zumenon is one such Hormone Replacement Therapy that contains the female sex hormone oestrogen in the form of an active ingredient called estradiol hemihydrate.

In addition to the physical symptoms, the drop in oestrogen production in the ovaries during menopause also causes psychological effects like irritability, depression, or insomnia. Even though the symptoms vary from women to women, it is essential to externally supply your body with what it is unable to produce naturally. Zumenon is an effective treatment used to supplement the body with oestrogen to offset the effects of menopause. Since it contains oestrogen only, this medication is ideal for women who have had their uterus removed via hysterectomy.

In addition to curing the various symptoms of menopause, Zumenon is also a second-line treatment to overcome and avoid osteoporosis, i.e. thinning and weakening bones in women with age. It is ideal for women who cannot take the medicines licensed for osteoporosis due to any reason.

The active ingredient in Zumenonestradiol hemihydrate is a synthetic form of the natural oestrogen produced in the body. Since your body is lacking this essential hormone giving rise to various discomforts, Zumenon works to replenish the levels of it in your body, thereby providing you with a chance to live your life normally.

Remember that any HRT medication, including Zumenon, can be taken only as a short-term relief from menopausal symptoms since too much oestrogen in the body could lead to complications. You must get its effects reviewed once a year by a doctor once you start taking Zumenon.

Menopause is an inevitable reality in every woman's life. It causes a drop in oestrogen production giving rise to many discomforting symptoms like hot flushes, vaginal dryness, etc. The primary advantage of HRTs like Zumenon is that it restores the hormonal disbalance and replenishes the levels to the natural amount that your body needs.

You can then live your daily life more comfortably without struggling through these symptoms. Remember that the medicine will definitely reduce the severity of the symptoms of menopause but will not do away with them entirely.

Zumenon tablets are available in two different doses of 1 mg and 2 mg. The 1 mg tablet contains 1 mg of estradiol while 2 mg will offer 2 mg of the same ingredient. For beginners, doctors prescribe the lowest dose for a short period to determine its effect on the body. In case you don't feel any changes in your menopausal symptoms with the 1 mg dose, you can discuss increasing your dose to 2 mg with your doctor. Follow your prescription and doctor's instructions precisely when using HRTs to relieve menopausal symptoms.

Like every medication, Zumenon also has specific information, which you need to know and understand before beginning it. In addition to reading it here, you can also find these guidelines in the patient information leaflet, so make sure you read them thoroughly.

  • While you may experience spotting during the first few months of taking Zumenon, you will not necessarily face a monthly withdrawal bleed unless you are also taking progestogen tablets during the last few days of each month.

  • If you miss a dose, you might experience spotting, but it will subside soon. In case it continues after a few months of taking the medicine, or after stopping treatment, make sure to consult your doctor.

  • You should undergo regular medical and gynaecological check-ups if you take any HRT to review its effects once a year with your doctor.

  • You should be aware that women using HRT suffer an increased risk of breast cancer, stroke and blood clots in the veins. You need to weigh this risk against the personal benefits of you taking HRT by thoroughly discussing it with your doctor. Consider investing in regular breast examinations and mammograms. You will also have to examine your breasts regularly and immediately report any changes in your breasts to a medical professional.

  • If you have to undergo surgery, particularly abdominal surgery or orthopaedic surgery, your doctor may recommend you cease taking HRT usually four to six weeks prior.

  • Lastly, remember that HRT does not provide contraception for women who are considered fertile for two years after their last menstrual period if under 50, or for one year if over 50. If you are taking HRT and also require contraception, you will have to opt for a non-hormonal method such as a condom or contraceptive foam.

Not every woman undergoing the effects of menopause will experience the same type of relief upon using Zumenon or any other HRT. Women with certain existing health conditions or medical histories will have to take extra precautions when starting with an HRT like this. These candidates include women who:

  • Have a family history of breast cancer, fibrocystic breast disease, fibroids in the womb, endometriosis i.e. overgrowth of the lining of the womb, liver diseases, gallstones, or blood clots in the veins i.e. pulmonary embolism)

  • Take medicines like warfarin for blood clot prevention

  • Are suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus, a condition causing long-term inflammation of the skin and some internal organs

  • Have suffered or are at risk of recurrent miscarriage

  • Are suffering from obesity

  • Smoke

  • Face severe varicose veins

  • Have a history of high blood pressure (hypertension)

  • Are risk heart failure

  • Are having unhealthy amounts of triglycerides in the blood

  • Suffer from decreased kidney function, diabetes, migraines, epilepsy, or asthma

  • Are at risk of developing an ear disorder that may cause hearing loss

  • Have previously developed brown patches on their face due to pregnancy or negative interaction with contraceptive pills

Steer clear of this HRT if you are allergic to one or any of Zumenon's ingredients. Remember to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have experienced an allergy to determine an alternative treatment for you. Listed below are groups of women who are unsuitable candidates for Zumenon. These include women with:
