Blockade of the cyclooxygenase enzymes results in reduced production of prostaglandins, thereby reducing pain, swelling, stiffness and tenderness at the site of inflammation.

  • For acute gouty arthritis: 50 mg three times a day.
  • For acute painful shoulder (bursitis or tendinitis): In three to four, divided doses of 75 to 150 mg per day for 1-2 weeks.
  • For mild to moderate acute pain: 20 mg three times a day, or 40 mg twice or thrice a day.
  • For moderate to severe osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, or rheumatoid arthritis: 25 mg, twice or thrice a day. The maximum dose should not exceed 200 mg per day.

Take Indometacin capsules orally with a glass of water, twice or thrice a day, preferably with food or milk or an antacid. Indometacin capsule should not be taken if suffering from stomach upset.
