Migard is a pain-relief medication that belongs to a group of medicines known as Triptan medicines. The active ingredient in this medication is Frovatriptan. This ingredient is a 5HT1 – receptor agonist.

Migard tablets are an effective medication to relieve migraine symptoms, such as throbbing headache with or without aura. There are various benefits of taking Migard. Some of them are listed below –

Migard is a prescription medicine for migraines, and you should follow the directions given by your doctor or pharmacists when using the medication. Also, make sure you read the information given in the patient information leaflet available in the pack. Here are the general instructions for using Migard –  

1. Take one Migard 2.5mg pill as soon as you experience migraine symptoms. It is best to take this medicine as soon as the headache begins for quicker relief.

2. This medicine can be taken at any time during a migraine attack.

3. You can take this medication with or without food.

4. Please take out the tablet from the blister pack only when you need to take it and not before.

5. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the medicine.

Migard is a prescription-only medicine, and so it is advisable to follow the dosage as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor or pharmacist will tell you the required dose of Migard for your migraine. As Migard works to stop migraine attacks and not prevent them, it is advisable to immediately take your prescribed amount of Migard when your migraine headache begins. You can also take it any time during a migraine attack. Usually, the recommended dose for Migard is as follows –  

• Take one tablet of Migard 2.5mg when you feel like a migraine attack is beginning. You should experience relief within thirty to forty minutes.

• If the first dose of Migard provides relief, but your headache comes back within 24 hours, take one more Migard 2.5mg tablet provided there is a gap of 2 hours between both doses.

• Do not take two doses of Migard 2.5mg for one migraine attack.

• Do not consume more than 5mg of Migard medicine within 24 hours.

• Migard should not be given to patients under 18 years of age and above 65 years of age.

Migard is an effective medication for treating migraine and related symptoms. Here is some important information about this medicine that every patient should keep in mind before taking Migard –  

1. Migard is a medication for migraine attacks only; it should not be taken for any other kind of headaches or pain-relief.

2. If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding, let your doctor know.

3. Migard Frovatriptan is not suitable for children below eighteen years of age.

4. Discuss your medical history or any existing medical conditions with your doctor before taking Migard tablets.

• Dry mouth

• Pins and needles sensations, tingling sensation

• Visual disturbances

• Chest pain

• Palpitations

• Tightness in the throat

• Abnormal thinking / Mood swings

• Insomnia or difficulty in falling asleep

• Eye irritation

• Ringing in the ears

• Itching of skin/rash

• Back or muscle pain

Migard is a powerful medication to treat migraine and related symptoms. However, it may not be suitable in some pre-existing medical conditions, or you may need to exercise caution when using Migard for migraines. Discuss the best form of treatment suitable for you with your doctor if you are at risk of coronary heart disease and –

1. You are a smoker

2. You use nicotine substitution therapy

3. You are a male over 40 years of age

4. You are a post-menopausal female

Migard is an effective medicine for treating migraine; it may not be suitable for everyone. Talk to your doctor about your health, other medical conditions and on-going treatments, if any – before taking Migard. Migard is not recommended in the following cases –  

1. If you are allergic to Frovatriptan or any other ingredients of the medicine.  

2. If you have had a heart attack in the past or suffer from coronary heart disease.  

3. If you have a blood circulation disorder in your legs or arms (especially fingers or toes) 

4. If you have had a stroke or transient ischemic attack 

5. If you have high blood pressure or your blood pressure is not adequately controlled. 

6. If you have kidney or liver disease 

7. If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or are breastfeeding. 

Store Migard in a cool, dry place away from direct heat or sunlight. Room temperature or below 30 degrees Celsius is an ideal temperature for storing Migard. Keep all the medicines out of sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine past the expiry date stated on the pack. If you are using a blister pack of Migard, keep the medicine in the blister pack until you need to take it. If you are using a bottle, keep the medication inside the bottle with the lid tightly closed unless you need to take medicine. 

1. Does Migard Help to Prevent Migraines? No. Migard is an effective medication to treat migraine attacks wherein the headache and symptoms have already begun. It cannot prevent future migraines or reduce the frequency of migraines.  

2. Is Migard a Pain-killer? No. Migard is a medication designed specifically to treat migraine symptoms. It should not be used to treat other kinds of headaches or for general pain-relief in other ailments.

3. Should I Take Migard With Food?  You can easily take Migard with or without food.

4. Is Migard Affected by Alcohol, Antibiotics or the Contraceptive Pill? None of the above influence the effect of Migard tablets. However, if you are suffering from a migraine, it is not advisable to drink alcohol – as it may make a migraine attack worse. The contraceptive pill also does not interact with Migard. However, it is essential to note that hormonal changes cause migraines in some cases.

5. Is it Safe to Use Other Migraine Treatments alongside Migard? You may safely use pain-killers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. However, it is not advisable to take other Triptan medications alongside Migard. It can put the patient at a higher risk of adverse side effects.
