Ventolin Evohaler is a type of 'blue inhaler' that is used for immediate relief during an asthma attack. Blue inhalers contain the active ingredient salbutamol, and they help reduce chest tightness, breathlessness and wheeze caused by asthma. It is a short acting inhaler, which means that it starts working immediately. If you take one or two puffs, they will usually help relieve your chest tightness for up to 6 hours.

Salbutamol is the active ingredient in blue inhalers for asthma. It helps relieve symptoms like breathlessness, coughing and wheezing.

There is no difference, Ventolin Evohalers are a brand of inhalers which contain the active ingredient Salbutamol.

The onset of its effect is immediate. If you take one or two puffs, they will usually help relieve your chest tightness for up to 6 hours.

Ventolin works by relaxing the airways of the lungs and therefore makes it easier to breathe.

You may inhale up to 1 or 2 puffs whenever needed. But if you need to use it more than 4 times a day, please consult your GP.

Whenever you need to use the inhaler, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that you are standing or sitting upright. Remove the cover of the mouthpiece and check it's clean. Shake the inhaler multiple times.

  1. Put your thumb firmly on the base and your fingers should be atop the canister. This will form a C-shape with your hands.

  1. Breathe out as much as you can and then place the inhaler mouthpiece inside your mouth. Close your lips in a way that the mouthpiece is between your teeth but you do not bite it.

  1. Start breathing in through your mouth. As you do so, press the canister and that will release one puff of the medicine. Keep breathing deeply and steadily. And try to hold your breath as long as you can.

  1. After taking one puff, wait for 30 seconds. Then repeat the same process to take one more puff.

  1. After having taken the medicine, replace the mouthpiece cover.

The medicine should be used with caution by patients if you:

  • have high blood pressure

  • have had heart problems

  • have a hyperactive thyroid

The medicine can sometimes cause short term side effects such as:

  • An increased heart-rate

  • Tremors

  • Headaches

However, these usually settle down after a few hours. You will also find a full list of side effects in the Patient Information Leaflet that you receive along with the inhaler.

Follow these precautions while taking Ventolin:

  • Always keep your inhaler dry and clean.

  • Store it with the mouthpiece cap to prevent any dust or bacteria from contaminating it.

  • Clean your inhaler at least once every week.

  • To clean it, remove the canister from the inhaler and run warm water over it for about 30 seconds.

  • Remove any excess water and let the canister dry out completely before you put the inhaler back on.

Ventolin can usually be used with other drugs. But you must inform our team about any other drugs that you are taking, any over-the-counter medicines or any recreational drugs that you use.

Since a prescription is essential for ordering Ventolin, you can rely on our online consultation service available at MedsNow to obtain it. Our clinicians will review your information and agree on an appropriate treatment with you. You can then discreetly place your order online.
